Tanner McGrew Named to USA Men’s World Cup Qualifying Team
Salt Lake City Stars forward Tanner McGrew has been named to the USA Men’s World Cup Qualifying Team, USA Basketball announced today.
Former NBA head coach Jeff Van Gundy returns as head coach of the USA Basketball Men’s World Cup Qualifying Team. The team will train Feb. 15-19 at the University of Miami and will continue its training Feb. 21 and Feb. 24 in Greensboro, N.C.
The USA team will conclude FIBA World Cup Qualifying play with a pair of home second round games on Feb. 22 versus Panama (3-6) and Feb. 25 versus Argentina (9-1). Both games will be held at the Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, the home of the Greensboro Swarm.
McGrew (6-8, 250, West Virginia Wesleyan), who was acquired by the Stars on Jan. 21, has appeared in 10 games (three starts) with Salt Lake City, averaging 14.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 30.9 minutes. He has scored in double figures seven times with the Stars, including a season-high 25 points on Jan. 25 vs. Long Island.
